Today in my devotions I read in Psalm 106 about how Israel would turn on the Lord. They would get away from the Lord, get in trouble and then call upon Him. They would become discontent and unhappy with their present circumstance and ask for things that they shouldn’t. But, this did not fill them and make them happy, verse 15 says, “And he (God) gave them their request: but sent leanness into their soul.” Many times we think that we will be satisfied if we only had this or that. We ask God for it and sometimes He will give it to us so that we can learn that He is the only thing that can satisfy our souls. Have you ever met those people that could eat and eat and never seem to gain any weight? They kinda get on your nerves don’t they? While we may sometimes wish we were like that, we need to be reminded that there are people out there that are like this spiritually as well. They eat up all this world’s pleasure that it has to offer and are still skinny in their soul, still not content and satisfied. However, the child of God who is walking in the will of God is a fat and contented soul. In Psalm 92 we are taught that the righteous “Shall still bring forth fruit in old age, they shall be fat and flourishing.” While I may wish my body was a bit skinnier… I’m glad that my soul is fat!
