A Terrible Evil

5-16-12

As Christians we can very easily fall into the trap of condemning other people’s sin while condoning our own. There is a terrible evil that lies in our hearts and it wants to sprout and reveal it’s ugliness but we must bring it under subjection and kill it. It’s an evil so bad that it lies in the heart of Satan himself. It’s his¬†motivation for rebellion against God and it has blinded him to think that in the end he will win. What is this terrible evil? This evil has plagued every human heart and is one of the main problems that so many of us have. It creeps up on us when we least expect it. It’s an evil that when we do good it will seek to destroy the good that we have done. What is the evil you may ask. Maybe, because you know¬† the evil of your own heart you know what it is already. Pride. This is the terrible evil that causes us so much trouble. Proverbs 16:5 says: “Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD.” Basically…pride is a terrible stench in the nostrils of God. It even makes all of our good deeds as Christians stink because we are seeking to rob the glory for our good works when that glory belongs to God. Pride makes us take credit when that credit belongs to Christ. God help us to destroy the sin of pride in our heart.
