He Must Increase

John the Baptist in John 3:30 said: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John was making reference to the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe in this simple declaration we see the mission of every child of God. Our desire as God’s people should be that Jesus would be seen and magnified before the eyes of others and that we would fall into the shadows. We should desire to hide behind the cross of Christ and that others would “Behold the Lamb of God” and not behold our lands, gold or good deeds. I pray that each of God’s children who read this will be consumed with holy zeal to magnify Jesus in their life. That Jesus would increase and that we would decrease. Our fleshly nature is prideful and wants to glorify itself. Therefore, we must constantly be on guard against any glory that we may seek to take unto ourselves. May we take any good that we have done and use it as an opportunity to say, “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
