As I have been praying and seeking God for revival the Lord has given me James 4:8 to think about. It reads: “Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” When you want revival then you desire to draw close to God. What is revival if it is not the manifestation of the presence of the Lord? The Lord gives us a promise here in His word. We must cleanse our hands and purify our hearts if want Him to draw nigh to us. Revival does not come without cost. We must be willing to turn from the sins of our heart and our hands. I believe that we often think that if we just get our hearts right then God will bless us. Listen, we cannot get our hearts right without also cleaning our hands as well. There are two extremes that people go in. One is that many think that all that matters is what is in the heart. Some think that they can engage in sinful behavior and think that their heart is still ok with God when in reality He is not close to them at all. The other extreme is that we see things only on the outward. We have our list of what we think a Christian should look like outwardly and we leave off the inward condition of the heart and wonder why the Lord is so far away. The Lord wants our heart and our hands. To think we can only give Him one without giving Him the other is to be double minded.
