Today we find the second time that Jesus rebuked His disciples for having little faith. It’s found in Matthew 8:25-26 where it reads: “And His disciples came to Him, and awoke Him, saying, Lord, save us; we perish. And He saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?” One very obvious point about faith in the word of God is that it removes fear. Paul told young Timothy “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”(II Tim. 1:7). The Lord God Almighty is our protector what is there to fear that He can not handle? If you take a closer look in Matthew and consider the words of the disciples I think you will see one of the reasons they had such little faith. Jesus rose up and rebuked the wind and the sea and there was a great calm. The disciples then said “What manner of man is this that the winds and the waves obey Him?” They were surpised at His power! Anytime we are “surprised” at how God showed up and did a great work and calmed our storm we reveal our lack of faith. So then, faith is not surprised at what God does but rather rather removes fear and expects God to handle the situation according to His will and power.
