Jesus teaches that all men will know that we are his disciples if we love one another (John 13:35). When people attend a New Testament Church and see a people that is loving one another like Jesus Christ loves them then that proves that they are his followers and gives witness that the message of the gospel is real. When any church is not loving one another as they ought then it hinders the work of the gospel. The gospel is the good news of how Christ Jesus died in order to reconcile sinners to himself. A legitimate question a lost person can ask is if the gospel we say we believe and love cannot reconcile us to one another and give us a love for one another how can it then reconcile them to God? Jesus said very clearly that when we love one another all men will know that we are his disciples. Meaning, we give evidence that we are followers of Jesus when we love one another. John teaches us in I John 4:7-8, 11-12 that we are to love one another because we are born of God and know God. We are able to love one another because we are born of God. When others see the love of God at work in us because we are loving one another then it gives evidence that we know Jesus Christ and that the gospel has reconciled us to God and to each other. One of the first things that will change in your life when you come to know the love of Christ is that you will begin to love the people of God and want to unite in fellowship with them. As a disciple of Jesus Christ love others like Christ loved you.
