Speaking Our Mind

5-30-13

What I have for us to think about today is the attitude that we can have when we say that we are just speaking our mind. Maybe all of us have been guilty of flaring up and just blurting out what we think even when it hurts others and then we pride ourselves because we just spoke our mind. Just because something comes into our mind it doesn’t mean that we should speak it. Not everything that comes into my mind should come out of my lips. Proverbs 29:11 says, “A fool uttereth all his mind, but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.” Maybe what you are thinking does need to be said but not at that time and not in the spirit of which you are about to say it. This is why it is so important for us to have our hearts right with God at all times. If our hearts are right with the Lord then there will be less chance of our lips shooting off things that it shouldn’t. Proverbs 10:32 reads, “The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh forwardness.” So before you start a sentence with “I’m just going to speak my mind” please take time to think about it. Maybe it does need said, but maybe not at that time and not in that tone. Let none of us take pride in ourselves because we “speak our mind.”
