Hurricane Sandy has sure wrecked havoc on the United States these past couple of days. When we listen to the weather reports we are constantly reminded of the power of “nature”. I wish that God received the power that belongs unto Him. In the book of Nahum we are told “The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.” Sandy is the hand of God. The Lord is not trying to control the storm. He is in the storm and is having His way in it. I think there are many reasons that the Lord brings these storms and I cannot answer all the why’s as to why God brings them. “Sandy” will fulfill many purposes that God has determined. However, without a doubt, no matter what people are experiencing because of this storm they are reminded of the great power of God. They may not attribute that power to the Lord but they are reminded that they don’t have power over the storm and its effect. Hurricane Sandy is only a small display of the power of God. Occasionally the Lord sends us these storms so as to remind us that He is great in power. May we learn that no matter whether the sun is shining or “Sandy” is raging that the Lord God Almighty is saying to all of us, “I’m of great power.” The Lord is coming back someday to bring judgment because of sin. If you can’t stop “Sandy” then how will you stop the wrath of God when it comes in great power upon this earth?
